St Catherine of Siena
St Catherine of Siena is the Saint we look up to at our school. She was born in Siena, Italy, in 1347 and was one of 25 children in her family! From a young age, Catherine loved God and wanted to live a life helping others.
Catherine joined the Dominican Third Order, a group of people who followed Jesus by caring for the poor, sick and those in need. She was very brave and wise. One of her most important achievements was helping the Pope return to Rome from France, which helped bring peace to the Church.
She wrote many letters, helped people get along, and always tried to do what was right. Catherine showed great courage, kindness and love for others. She died at the age of 33, but her life made a big difference.
St Catherine was made a Saint in 1461 and later given the special title of Doctor of the Church because of her amazing work and wisdom. Her feast day is on April 29 and she is the patron Saint of Italy and Europe.
"Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world ablaze."
At our school, we try to follow St Catherine’s example by being kind, brave and always doing our best to help others.
