Religious Education

Fostering deep understandings and connections to their Catholic identity

St Catherine of Siena Primary School is a Catholic Learning Community, that works together to empower its members to follow Jesus and reach their full potential according to Gospel values.

Students are immersed in the Catholic faith and are challenged to live out the teachings, traditions and beliefs of the Catholic Church. Our well planned and conceptually based program assists in the facilitation of this empowerment. It encourages our students to discover and enact their Christian faith. We recognise faith development is a lifelong journey and acknowledge parents and family as the initial faith educators of students.

  Learning and Teaching.

Religious Education at St Catherine of Siena, is drawn from the Religious Education Curriculum Framework, develop in the Archdiocese of Melbourne and revised in 2018.

Students seek meaning through the three dimensions outlined in the RE Curriculum:

  • Knowledge and Understanding (Exploring scripture)
  • Reasoning and Responding (Developing a personal understanding)
  • Personal and Communal Engagement (Taking action, living the story)

These dimensions are used as a guide to further explore 5 content areas:

  • Church & Community
  • Scripture & Jesus
  • Prayer, Liturgy and Sacraments
  • God Religion and Life
  • Morality & Justice

  Sacramental Programs

At St Catherine of Siena Primary School we believe that Sacraments are the living out of our faith. They are important celebrations in our faith journey and the heart of our Catholic tradition. Each Sacrament provides the opportunity to gather as a community to celebrate the symbolic ritual and to help each candidate to grow in grace.

As part of the Catholic Parish Melton, we celebrate the Sacraments as follows:

Reconciliation Year 3

Eucharist Year 4

Confirmation Year 6
