Student Wellbeing

At St Catherine of Siena, we believe every child has the right to feel safe, valued, and included. We are committed to creating a learning environment where all students feel supported and respected and where everyone can participate equally, without fear of bullying or discrimination.

To make this happen, we have clear and consistent ways of teaching and encouraging positive social behaviour. We help students learn how to treat others with kindness, solve problems peacefully and build respectful relationships.

Our school community – students, families, staff and Parish members – works together to help every child grow and reach their full potential. We are proud of the strong sense of connection we share. Caring for one another and striving to live by the values of compassion, tolerance, forgiveness, and reconciliation in everything we do.

Buddy Program

The Buddy Program is a special part of life at St Catherine of Siena. It helps our youngest students feel welcome as they begin their primary school journey and also gives our Senior students meaningful leadership opportunities.

At the start of the school year, each Senior student is paired with a Prep ‘buddy’. This helps our new Preps settle in, learn their way around the school and feel supported as they make new friends. It’s a wonderful way to build strong social connections and a sense of belonging in our school community.

Throughout the year, buddies take part in a range of planned activities together – both learning tasks and fun playtimes – helping to grow their confidence and support each other along the way.

Student Voice

At St Catherine of Siena, we believe students have important ideas, opinions and insights to share. We value their voice and give them opportunities to be active participants in their own learning and in the life of our school.

Our Student Voice initiatives encourage students to take part in conversations about their education, school community and ways we can all grow and improve. Through these opportunities, students can share their thoughts, raise concerns and suggest new ideas.

The Student Representative Council includes students from different year levels who meet regularly with the leadership team. Together, they provide feedback, help make decisions and lead positive changes in our school. It’s a great way for students to feel heard, develop leadership skills and make a real difference.

Got an amazing idea???

Student Leadership

At St Catherine of Siena, we believe that every Year 6 student is a leader. All of our senior students play an important role in guiding and supporting our school community and they are given many opportunities throughout the year to grow and develop their leadership skills.

Our Year 6 students help run our weekly school assemblieslead prayer and reflection during whole school gatherings and assist with organising and supporting school events such as sports days, liturgies and special celebrations. They also take part in leading social justice initiatives, helping to raise awareness and support for those in need, both locally and globally.

In addition to these shared responsibilities, some Year 6 students are selected for formal leadership roles. These include School Captains, Vice Captains, Sports Leaders and other roles connected to key areas of school life, such as sustainability, wellbeing or faith and mission. These students represent our school with pride, helping to model our values and work closely with staff and younger students.

Our leadership program is designed to help all senior students build confidence, responsibility, teamwork and a strong sense of service to others – important skills they will carry with them into Secondary school and beyond.
